We later added SSDs in order to further scale up our virtual machine workload. The initial unit we purchased had magnetic storage only and easily met our requirements. We routinely boot 80 or more virtual machines simultaneously as others run continuously. A single TrueNAS M40-HA handles both of these easily. We have a mixed workload consisting of both large archival data sets with low I/O performance requirements and vSphere virtual machines, some of which have high I/O performance requirements. We explained our performance and capacity requirements, and iXsystems provided a customized solution and detailed technical information about its performance characteristics. The TrueNAS M40-HA we purchased has exceeded our expectations. As a small business with a limited budget, we were looking for an alternative to lower-end small business products which could provide higher performance and capacity at a reasonable price point. We've been using TrueNAS Enterprise since mid-2018, and we couldn't be happier with how it's performed in our environment. Infinidat intelligently moves blocks between super-fast memory and SSD to giant pools of spinning disk, achieving excellent, predictable performance, with a pleasant price tag. It compared favorably with systems that were three or four times more expensive. Performance at a reasonable price was another compelling reason we chose Infinidat. As for cost, Infinidat's capacity licensing model is low cost and predictable. In seven years, we have yet to experience any down-time with an Infinidat system.
Reliability and cost were our two priorities when we first acquired Infinidat. Each customer is also assigned a Technical Advisor who keeps them abreast of any system upgrades and new features that should be considered. Response to problem tickets is frighteningly fast. Support engineers are very well-trained, and typically have years of experience working for Infinidat, and one or more of the legacy storage vendors. How these categories and markets are definedĪfter seven years, Infinidat continues to be my best experience as a customer. Typical use cases include mission- and business-critical database workloads, application consolidation and support for virtual environments, providing persistent storage for container environments and hybrid cloud IT operations that span on-premises, colocation, edge and public cloud infrastructure. Additionally, primary storage functionality will support the separation and independent use of a centralized control plane, and the data services and movement plane, for hybrid infrastructure platform and services (HIPS) storage-as-a-service offerings.
